The first annual Insulators Tissue Bank and Asbestos Research Charitable Trust Golf Fundraiser raised more than $200,000 to help finance much-needed research for asbestos-related diseases.
The late-May outing took place at Lookout Mountain Golf Club at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort during the combined Local Union Officers Meeting, Joint Apprenticeship Committee Conference and Master Apprentice Competition in Arizona.
Thanks to the combined meetings with more Insulators in attendance, there was a heightened interest in having an outing that would also generate money for an extremely worthy cause.
With over 180 golfers, more than 60 hole sponsors and 30 bronze, silver, gold and platinum level sponsors, the event raised roughly $202,000 for the Insulators Tissue Bank and Asbestos Research Charitable Trust.

Following a fun day of golf, over 60 prizes were handed out during the dinner, which was included as part of the fundraiser.
During dinner, General President McCourt thanked all who helped make the outing a rousing success. “I can’t say thank you enough to our sponsors and our golfers,” he said. “This event has been a success because of you! Asbestos and occupational related illnesses have been plaguing our industry for generations, and I am proud of our dedication to fund research to help treat these diseases.”
On behalf of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, our Brothers and Sisters, friends and family, we thank everyone who participated and donated to this new event, expected to become an annual tradition. Your contributions are deeply appreciated and will help fund research to better the health of our members and loved ones.
Each year, the combined efforts of our members result in raising and donating more than $1 million to fund
research for asbestos-related diseases and the new golf outing will play a significant role in that effort.
