Breath of Life Foundation holds successful golf fundraiser

The 10th Annual Breath of Life Foundation golf fundraiser took place in late September at Stonewall Jackson Golf Resort in Roanoke, W.Va.

There were 104 golfers and guests at the event, which was hosted by the Central States Contractors Association and our Central States Conference Local Unions, who helped raised $117,143 for the Breath of Life Foundation in 2019.

Since the golf outing’s inception in 2009, the combined labor and management efforts have raised more than $1.3 million. These funds have enabled the Breath of Life Foundation to support research and education to seek a cure for mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases.

During the awards ceremony, John Tesija, partner attorney at Novara, Tesija & Catenacci, P.L.L.C., who for more than a decade has dedicated his time and expertise to the industry and to the Breath of Life Foundation, was given Honorary Membership to the Insulators Union with Local 207. Tesija and his firm have donated the needed expert guidance for the Breath of Life Foundation since its inception. He also aided Local 207 in establishing the Local’s Health and Welfare funds.

Following the outing, The Breath of Life Foundation announced next year’s event will be renamed to honor the contributions of William “Bud” Turner. A retired contractor from West Virginia, Turner is an inspiration to everyone, as he has gone to great lengths to ensure the success of the Breath of Life Foundation. Beginning in 2020, the outing will be called The Breath
of Life Foundation Bud Turner Classic Golf Fundraiser.

Thank you to the following Platinum Sponsors who helped to make this event successful: International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Central States Conference, West Virginia Master Contractors Association, Local 3, Local 47 and Local 50. The event continues to be a success due in large part to the generous donations and support from all the sponsors.

“The commitment and volunteerism that the Central States Locals, Brothers and Sisters and Contractors have to the Breath of Life Foundation is unmatched,” said General Secretary-Treasurer Greg Revard. “All of the $1.3 million raised has been donated to charity for research.”

Congratulations to the winning team that included Bud Turner, Tom Householder, Rob Osborne and Todd Westfall.

Thank you to all the Brothers, Sisters, family and friends, who participated in this fundraiser for the Breath of Life Foundation.
