GP McCourt sends JOBS message letter to Leader Pelosi

With continued political involvement at the top-of-mind for the International Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, General President McCourt penned a letter to U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Leader Hon. Nancy Pelosi.

In the letter, which can be found here, General President McCourt suggested a Justice and Opportunity to Build Success (J.O.B.S.) campaign for the Democratic Party.

Justice – Democrats need a message that recognized the fundamental economic injustice that exists today.

Opportunity – We must remind voters that Democrats are the part of economic opportunity. For Democrats, education/skill development and the ability to join a union are the foundation for economic opportunity.

Build – In [Leader Pelosi’s] presentation to building trades leaders, you stated the focus of the Democratic Party message is build, and [General President McCourt] could not agree with [Pelosi] more.

Success – In contrast to President Trump who sees the work in Social Darwinian terms between winners and losers, Democrats want each and every person to succeed. We want families to succeed, and we want our communities and our country to succeed. Democrats want shared prosperity, so that when a business is successful, the workers are rewarded for their success.

The letter was also sent to all members of the HFIAW General Executive Board, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, the Building Trades General Board of Presidents and AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka.

HFIAW Director of Government Affairs Chip Gardiner hand delivered the letter to Leader Pelosi on October 30, 2017.

More details and political involvement can be read in Gardiner’s quarterly message of The Insulators Union Journal in the winter edition.
