Led by the U.S. Marine Corps, Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
As we published in the latest edition of The Insulators Union Journal, the HFIAW was proud to support the Toys for Tots program for the fifth straight year this past holiday season.
Throughout the fall of 2014, our local unions sent in sizable donations for the Toys for Tots drive, which the International then matched. Because of the generous spirit of our members, we raised more than $10,000 to help spread the holiday cheer to boys and girls in the Washington, D.C. area.
With these donations, we were able to fill a 28-foot U-Haul truck with 56 sets of bicycles, safety helmets and bike locks, along with 359 toys for underprivileged children in the area. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all Local sand individuals who participated in our partnership with Toys for Tots and Helmets to Hardhats. You can find the full story in the spring 2015 edition of The Journal.
